Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
